Job Safety Analysis
A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a method that can be used to identify, analyze and record:
- The basic steps involved in performing a specific job task. (It is not a step-by-step, detailed operational procedure.)
- The existing or potential safety hazards associated with each step.
- The recommended procedures and personal protective equipment that will eliminate or reduce these hazards and minimize the risk of a workplace injury.
PennPRIME has harnessed the power of its safety committees to develop basic, draft versions of JSAs for many common municipal job tasks covering all municipal departments. As with any draft policy or procedure, consider these a starting point for you to develop you own JSAs that have been reviewed and modified for your specific operations.
